The production of the two millionth tonne of Kemiart coated white top kraftliner was celebrated recently by M-real with customers at the Kemiart Liners Mill in Finland. Kraftliner production started at Kemi in 1971. In 1990 the company upgraded its processing and invested in a coating unit, starting production of coated white top kraftliner the same year. Kemiart Ultra is the latest addition to the range. M-real says recent production runs have proved that it can be post-printed without drying equipment and no loss of efficiency in production. Depending on the press equipment, printing speeds from 6,000-15,000 sheets/hour have been achieved with in-line die cutting. In addition to significant energy cost savings, Kemiart Ultra is claimed to offer “a superb combination of graphics quality in flexo post-print and high productivity at all stages of printing and converting”. Its surface is said to allow for much faster ink drying times than conventional coated liners, and can handle higher ink volumes and faster printing speeds.
