New company Digital Highpoint, in North Carolina, USA, has purchased a Scitex Vision CORjet Premium inkjet press. The firm was formed in June, 2004, as a subsidiary of corrugated packaging supplier Carolina Containers, to offer a complete service from design to finishing, including product presentation, POP, packaging, trade show graphics and merchandising displays.

Director of operations Jack Richards, comments: “We saw an avenue for growth in large format digital printing, and the CORjet has already opened many doors for us. Our main goal was to extend our new services to the Carolina Containers’ customer base and then seek out new markets. The printer’s short run and turnaround capabilities have allowed us to explore new markets such as product development and prototype production. Our customers’ demands for innovative advertising designs and concepts is something we can also cater for at a relatively low cost, thanks to its ability to print on a number of different substrates.”

The CORjet Premium will print on corrugated board, foam boards, compressed boards and other paper based liners on rigid substrates, delivering full sheets up to 160cm x 320cm and up to 10mm thick, at a throughput of up to 150m2/hour – up to 29 full format sheets/hour.

“Its colour balance and density are unmatched by other large format printers,” enthuses Jack Richards, adding: “We are constantly pushing it to new limits. Printing onto SBS folding carton substrates and plastics are just two examples.”

He concludes: “Digital printing is changing the printing industry as we know it today. Certainly, the low production costs and turnaround times of the CORjet Premium were previously unimaginable. The ease of use is also astounding. It is amazing to think that a printer of that size and complexity can easily be handled by one operator.”
