Field Group has used a new technology that enables the creation of machine-erectable creases in plastic cartons to produce a special polypropylene carton for bakery product manufacturer Lightbody.

It is believed the patent pending technology may be a world first in that in that, to Field’s knowledge, no other company has previously managed to automate manufacture of plastic cartons with a crease specification. The pack is for a cake manufactured in the shape of cartoon character SpongeBob Squarepants.

Field says its experience producing board cartons enabled it to develop a way of converting PP with a measurable, controllable machine-erectable crease specification. It has also developed fast-drying inks and varnishes and an adhesive specially suited to the plastic.
