German narrow web press manufacturer Edelmann Graphics has moved into the flexible packaging and label sector with the sale of an Evo-Print web press. The end user is a label printer in northern Germany who is gaining a market share in flexible packaging and is looking to utilize litho quality with flexo to provide added value in a fiercely competitive market.

A hybrid machine, the Evo-Print will be equipped with a Martin splicer, six litho towers, a flexo unit, preparation for retrofit of gravure units, cold foiling, delam/relam station, die cutting and rewind. Drying will be provided by an interdeck UV system from Print Concept.

The Evo-Print is an ‘open platform’ press with a web width of 485mm, a litho print range of 279-609mm, and speeds up to 257m/min. Other print processes such as flexo, gravure, rotary silkscreen and letterpress are available. The press comes standard with a Microsoft based PC control system said to provide a high degree of automation, reduced makereadies, job storage and powerful on-board diagnostics.

Edelmann has manufactured several machines for printing on non paper substrates such as film, aluminum and 650 micron PP for the Asian packaging market. Another notable recent installation is at The Print Factory, in the UK, for specialized coupons for the leisure industry.
