A ‘third generation’ roll-fed digital label press designed for production work has been launched by US manufacturer Primera Technology. Said to be ideal for short runs, the Impressa 3 can be operated directly from a Windows based PC and will handle a wide range of substrates.

First shown publicly at this month’s LabelExpo Asia, in Singapore, the new press is a single unit capable of printing and die cutting full colour, ‘photo quality’ labels in any size or shape. According to Primera, it also has a price “many thousands of dollars less than other digital label presses, none of which includes the ability to digitally cut labels while printing”.

The new press uses advanced resin-thermal and dye-sublimation printing technologies to fuse images perman- ently onto substrates through heat and pressure. The results are said to be sharp detail and bright, vibrant colours, and clear text as small as 6pt.
