Pharmaceutical packaging alliance Copapharm Europe has reported an increased turnover in 2009, to 328 million euros from 301 million euros.

“The last 12 months have seen slight decreases in the demand for drugs from the USA and Eastern Europe and reduced sales of packaging material,” said Copapharm Europe’s chairman Daniel Keesman, adding that newly acquired customers have helped maintain sales.

Members slightly increased the proportion of pharmaceutical packaging produced, to 91% of total output.

Alliance members recently reviewed the definition of stringent processes and are updating current programmes for key account management, to benefit customers.

A supply chain working group has been set up to cover supply chain programmes such as vendor managed inventory (VMI).

A new member in 2009 was UK-based Medica Packaging, part of the Benson group, producing folding cartons and patient information leaflets and labels.
