Zimbabwe-based glass manufacturer Zimglass has set 1 June 2012 as the date for resuming its operations after refurbishment activities, after failing to open on set dates twice.

The firm’s glass plant ceased operating in September 2010 for refurbishment of its furnaces and purchase of certain equipments that included glass-making components, quality inspection machines; and palletizing and packaging section renovations, according to allafrica.com.

According to the firm, it is currently sitting on orders of 32 tons of glass, and plans to make 134,640 bottles having a beer capacity of 375ml out of 110 tons of molten glass per day following upgrading.

Zimglass managing director Jacob Dube said the delay has been caused as some ordered materials for the glass contact refractory did not meet their demands, necessitating a replaced order that will take some more time for delivery.

"However, all the other equipment is now on site and some of it has already been installed like the steelwork, Independent section machines while the wiring of the furnace is in progress," added Dube.
