Novelis has decided to cease its foil roll operations and part of the packaging business at its Bridgnorth facility in England by the end of April next year.
Novelis Europe and senior vice-president of Novelis, Tadeu Nardocci said an alternative to closure could not be arrived at for most of the operation.
Novelis is in talks with potential buyers for the printed confectionery packaging business on the site and the company may sell the part of the packaging operation at the site as a going concern.
The company stated that the closure will improve competitiveness of its overall foil and packaging production system in response to over-capacity in the European foil market and increasing competition from manufacturers in low-cost countries.
The company said its existing customer orders will be met.
Novelis supplies foil products throughout Asia, Europe, North America and South America.
