Nestlé is opening a new innovation hub in Singapore for drinks packaging and product development in the Asia-Pacific region. The new hub is aimed to develop new products based on local tastes and preferences for both the local market and further afield.

It will also develop new packaging which includes packaging for consumers with limited income and provide technical assistance to Nestlé markets in the region.

Nestlé R&D Singapore director Susanne Kulhanek said it was important for the firm to blaze the trail of innovation to meet and anticipate the needs of customers.

“In order to do this, we must continually expand and update our range of products as proof of our commitment, creativity and know-how,” Kulhanek said.

The new Singapore hub is scheduled to be fully functional by the beginning of next year and is located at the firm’s research and development centre. It expands an existing site that focuses on coffee, according to PackagingNews.

Nestlé has 29 R&D operations worldwide employing some 5,000 staff.
