Florida based Keystone Water has introduced re:newal spring water which will feature a bottle made from plants rather than crude oil. This bottle is available for customers to buy directly through all Fresh Market stores throughout the US starting May 2010.

The company claims that re:newal promotes an eco-friendly lifestyle by offering spring water packaged in a bottle and label made from corn. It further claims that the plant-based bottle does not contain any PET plastic, instead it is fully compostable, and will break down and return to its natural state in approximately 90 days when placed in an active compost bin or pile.

Darren Keller, CEO of Keystone Water, said: Through re:newal, The Fresh Market customers will have the option to buy a bottled water that fits their green lifestyle, without compromise on convenience or taste.”

The re:newal bottle is made from Ingeo, a material that emits fewer greenhouse gases and uses less energy than other plastic bottle options on the market. This material is also known by its generic name, PLA (polylactide), and provides opportunities for a more eco-friendly approach to composting and recycling.
