Whisky packaging printer John Watson & Co has forayed into self-adhesive label print production by investing £3m in a 10-colour pressure sensitive label press of US-based Gallus.

The delivery of the machine will take place in December 2010 before production begins at its Townhead facility, Glasgow in February 2011.

The increased demand from customers requiring self-adhesive labels for drinks bottles has made the company invest in the new label press.

Company Chairman and Chief Executive John Watson said that the self adhesive process will enable customers to increase the bottling speeds with often an improvement to the quality of the label too.

‘Despite the investment in new technology, the machine will complement the business’s high-volume wet labelling operation,” Watson said.
