Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific has declared that the company is closing its corrugated box manufacturing facility in Memphis in early 2011.

According to a filing with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the plant should be completely shut down by mid-February 2011.

The 233,000sqft Memphis facility was one of 55 plants acquired by Georgia Pacific in 1990, when it acquired Great Northern Nekoosa.

Georgia Pacific manufactures paper and corrugated boxes for shipping purposed, and is also a manufacturer and distributor of tissue, pulp, paper, packaging, building products and related chemicals.

The company also operates a plastic shipping container washing facility on South Mendenhall in Memphis.

It has more than 300 facilities in North and South America and Europe, including in Chattanooga, Cleveland and Lebanon, Tennessee, and Grenada, Mississippi.
