Delta Corporation has announced that it will commission a new bottling plant in Graniteside, Zimbabwe by August this year, as part of its plans to raise the capacity utilisation levels.

Delta Corporation chief executive Joe Mutizwa said the new 42000-bottle per hour bottling plant is expected to increase its performance significantly and will support the company’s volume recovery and increase production in the country.

The company recorded sales revenue of $408m for the half-year ended February 2011 compared to $281m over the same period last year.

"Increase on sales was contributed by the increase in beer volumes and beer volumes growth was mostly contributed by investment both in plant and glass packaging," Mutizwa said.

The group recorded an increase in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of $81. 7m, while operating profits stood at $68.2m up from $38.8m, a 76% increase and revenue grew by 45%.
