UK-based CRP Print & Packaging has purchased KBA’s sheetfed offset packaging press, the Rapida 162a. The company plans to install this new press in a six-colour-plus-double-coater configuration by the end of October.

The decision to purchase was made partly on the strength of the Rapida’s VariDry BLUE system of IR/hot air dryers, launched at IPEX. The system was designed to dry high-gloss coatings to a superior quality while also reducing power consumption by as much as 50%, even at high production speeds.

CRP managing director Eddie Fellows said the performance and integrity innovations of the Rapida allow the company to offer the ultimate in print quality in an ecologically responsible way.

The model at CRP will also include QualiTronic inline content and print/colour quality monitoring system and DensiTronic ink density monitoring and adjustment system, together with the CX package that allows the press to print on sheets up to 1.2mm or 800gsm thick.
