Netherlands-based Chronos BTH has installed a packing system for a UK firm that sells bedding materials for farm animals. The system has been installed by RA & CE Platt, based at Llay, near Wrexham, to pack a range of fine sawdust and shavings products into as many as 400 bags per hour.

The contract for Chronos BTH was the result of an initial enquiry at the last Interpack show in Germany in 2008 and was part of a site-wide upgrade at Platt’s Llay facility.

The volumetric feeder upon installation will enable feeding of the products into a tubular form fill and seal bagging machine. The bags once filled are fed via a conveying system in to a high level palletiser. The loaded pallets are then wrapped with a Rainbow stretch hooder.

Platt production director Nigel Thedens said with product density changing constantly, it is extremely difficult to achieve the same amount of material in every bag.

“Chronos BTH worked closely with Platt’s to resolve this issue and came up with an excellent solution,” Thedens added.
