The UK’s Clondalkin Group has acquired Cartonplex, Barcelona based manufacturer of folding cartons for the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets, and a member of the European Copapharm Alliance.
Clondalkin ceo Norbert McDermott comments: “Cartonplex is well placed to become another key platform for us as we expand our pharmaceutical packaging business in Europe. Our pharmaceutical packaging businesses now account for approximately €200M of our annualized sales. These sites are strategically located to service key pharmaceutical and healthcare customers in the United States, Puerto Rico, Ireland, UK, Netherlands and Poland – and Cartonplex adds a key Spanish location.”
John Fitzgerald, ceo of Clondalkin’s Specialist Packaging Division, whose team handled the acquisition, said: “This is an important market to us because of the high concentration of world class pharmaceutical companies with manufacturing and research activities clustered around the Barcelona and Madrid centres of excellence.”
