The 140-strong plant is one of a number acquired from Klöckner Pentapack in 2001 and is Budelpack’s only facility serving the pharma and healthcare sector. Budelpack has developed the site into an FDA-approved plant handling items including blister-packed and generic drugs, prefilled syringes, small medical devices and pharmaceutical wipes. The site is also equipped to pack powders, semi-liquids and liquids in various formats, including sachets and stickpacks.

Budelpack ceo Chris Moerkerken says: “Our decision to develop Hamont into a specialist in pharma contract packing has proven right. Since 2001 a total transformation in focus has taken place, accompanied by major investments and a totally changed business environment. The sale to United Drug offers Hamont the best position for realising further development. In United Drug we have found a company that can better support the development of Hamont given that Budelpack’s own corporate strategy is geared to personal and homecare.”

United Drug is a leading service provider to UK and Irish pharmaceutical retailers and healthcare manufacturers operating in four key business divisions – pharma wholesale, supply chain services, medical and scientific and contract sales outsourcing. Within supply chain services it provides contract packaging services to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries through the UK’s TD Packaging.
