Banknote and security paper manufacturer ArjoWiggins Security can now offer a range of packaging security solutions to help FMCG manufacturers protect their brands’ integrity.

Its STES (Synthetic Tamper-Evident Substrate) system, for instance, is “particularly effective” in highlighting tamper evidence and is ideally suited to use on security labels for spare parts, pharmaceuticals, perfumes and cosmetics, alcoholic beverages and chemical drums.

Produced from a biaxially oriented expanded HDPE film, STES is ultra-fragile; attempts to remove it result in the facestock delaminating, preventing re-positioning or re-use. Also incorporating visible security features, STES is “strong, easy to convert and print and recycle”.

A second brand protection product, Spot Tag, is a taggant mixed with an ink or varnish “printable on any substrate”. Arjo says the printed spot “cannot be reproduced” and can only be authenticated via a special electronic reader. Reading frequencies and the taggant components are “secret”, with the protection working on a 5 x 5mm spot area.
