UK-based soft drinks producer Britvic is set to invest more than £100m in its Rugby facility and create about 80 new jobs at the site.

The latest investment forms part of Britvic’s wider three-year plan of investing £240m in Great Britain designed for bringing step-change to its manufacturing capability.

As part of the investment, three new can lines have been installed along with groundwork for a new on-site warehouse and aseptic line at the facility are taking place.

Britvic said that the warehouse will improve logistics planning and can reduce road miles and help the company in reducing its carbon footprint. The aseptic line will manufacture preservative-free drinks.

Presently, the Rugby facility has a workforce of 176 people. New jobs at the facility will include technical operators, engineers and team leaders.

Britvic claims that the new can lines are amongst the fastest in Europe and can collectively produce about 6,000 cans per minute.

The company stated that the design has helped in reducing waste and increase production.

By April, the steel can formats will be moved to aluminium cans removing 8,000 tonnes of metal per year.

Britvic chief supply chain officer Clive Hooper said: “Rugby has been a home to Britvic for more than 30 years. The site has undergone significant change in that time; from the 80s when we manually produced drinks, through to the 90s when we moved to full automation, to our position today as the proud owners of some of the fastest can lines in Europe.

“At every stage, we have worked as a team to drive innovative change and I am looking forward to welcoming new team members to Rugby over the next 12 months as we continue to invest in our Rugby site.”
