Fibre-based products producer Ahlstrom-Munksjö has launched a new PurposeSeal heat seal technology for end-use applications.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö said that the PurposeSeal is a heat-sealed paper to maintain the quality and protect the fibre-based end-use products.

It provides extra sustainability benefits when used along with Cristal Transparent Packaging Papers or trulyNatural unbleached papers, the firm said.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö Technical Solutions business vice president Zack Leimkuehler said: “PurposeSeal is changing the way our customers can create sustainable packaging solutions.

“Excess waste and chemicals are removed from the converting process, as the strong seal is achieved using only heat.”

The PurposeSeal technology comes under the Cristal translucent paper product line, which achieved recyclability certification from Ahlstrom-Munksjö.

These products have passed Western Michigan University’s SBS Equivalency (WMU SBS-E) testing process, making them recyclable.

Furthermore, Cristal and PurposeSeal have received third-party certification from the Centre technique du papier, confirming that Cristal heal seal coating is recyclable according to the European Union’s EN13430 requirements.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö Technical Solutions business marketing manager Dana DeCoster said: “PurposeSeal is completely customisable. It can be combined with other technologies such as colour, transparency, water resistance, and high stretch, along with other attributes to fit any requests your customers may come to you with.”

PurposeSeal is marketed as a sustainable alternative to standard film-based packaging as customers continue to want products with a positive end-of-life story.

It is adaptable to function in a wide range of applications, including flexible packaging, insulated packaging, pouches, and garment bags/wraps.

Last month, the company launched a new range of sustainable release papers for silicone coating.
