Sacmi Beverage in the Spotlight at Hispack, Barcelona

Integrated turnkey solutions, from the raw material to the bottle. Plus the goal, as stated in our motto "we are where you are", of being as close as possible to the customer. These two features form the twin pillars of Sacmi Beverage, which will be presenting its latest blow-moulding, filling, labelling and end-of-line innovations at the Hispack fair in Barcelona from 15th to 18th May 2012.

Capable of comprehending and intercepting the needs of a market focussed not just on the qualities of individual machines but, increasingly, on complete made-to-measure solutions that incorporate careful planning-oriented design, Sacmi has, since 2009, merged all its production skills into a single Division. No longer just a loose grouping of companies, then, but a sole provider with a single production and sales logic supplying customers with complete plants.

Visitors to Hispack will be able to make contact with "planet Sacmi" at stand D412 – Hall 1. Pride of place will go to PET preform production systems thanks to the new IPS, characterised by system flexibility, rapidity of size changeover, excellent ergonomic solutions, energy savings, enhanced compactness and, lastly, a global sales and after-sales network. From preform production, then, to the new Sacmi SBF (stretch blow forming) machines, highly efficient and reliable units at every customers’ service to ensure they’re provided with just the bottle shape they need. The rotary blow moulders of the SBF line, which feature from 6 to 24 stretch-blowing stations, lie at the very top of their category, ensuring output rates of over 64,000 bottles per hour with a standard half-litre format. The huge advantage of this stretch blower is the possibility – on every machine in the range – of installing a single cavity mould for a large bottle (up to 3 litres) or a 2-cavity mould for smaller bottles (up to 0.6 litre). The switchover from single to double cavity (and vice versa) is completed extremely simply and quickly. This makes it possible to process over 2700 small bottles per hour per station, thus ensuring full use of the capacity and production potential of any downstream machine or filling line.

And on the closures front, the challenge has already been won: here, Sacmi’s unparalleled product and process innovation has made it the market leader for over a decade. This is where the CCM series comes into play: developed by Sacmi for the production of single-piece caps, this series successfully combines outstanding sealing performance with extremely short cycle times and low energy consumption thanks to advanced compression technology that allows the extrusion process to be completed at temperatures much lower than those required by traditional injection technology. Another pillar of the Beverage Division is Sacmi Filling: thanks to filling solutions such as SOLO-MAS, Sacmi ensures outstanding process flexibility, extremely brief size changeover times and absolute finished product integrity thanks to the fact that the bottle never comes into direct contact with the filler valve.

Automation, flexibility, cleanliness and efficiency are also the key qualities on the labelling systems developed by Sacmi Verona. In this field the way is led by the OPERA RFST (roll fed sleeve technology) series, which applies heat-shrink labels directly from the film roll. This is just one of many innovative products being developed at the Sacmi Verona research facility, making use of a variety of labelling technology solutions that range from cold neck label application and laser sealing systems to new shrink sleeve applications.

Sacmi also provides an extensive end-of-line range, with palletizing solutions and automated piece handling on all LGVs developed by the Nuova Fima Group. Furthermore, an entirely new division, Sacmi Dairy, has been established with the ambition of repeating the success of the beverage division in an industry (i.e. the dairy and cheese produce sector) with very special needs. This is being achieved by bringing together the best of the three "Made in Sacmi" plastic processing technologies: compression, injection and thermoforming. Sacmi Dairy stems from a Group strategy of vertical and horizontal diversification, its starting point being the excellent know-how developed by Benco Pack, ranging from FFS and aseptic filling to the innovative CBF (compression blow forming) units and extending to the Sacmi Verona labelling technologies that include the world’s only on-machine ISA (Integrated Sleeve Applicator) installation; the latter ensures fast, high-speed performance at output rates of up to 30 thousand sleeves per hour.

The Hispack fair also represents a major opportunity for Sacmi to enhance another side of its operations: the fact of being a major Group present on five continents, capable of providing customers with continuous pre and post-sales assistance. Moreover, Sacmi can now count on two Iberian peninsula branches, one in Castellón, Spain, the other at Oiá, Portugal, giving a further boost to the Iberian market, ever-more important for the Sacmi Group’s growth and development in the beverage and dairy sectors.
