UK company BCP Fluted Packaging has launched a range of packs for microwaveable meals under the trademark Heat’n’Hold. Designed for filled baguettes and sausage rolls, they are made of corrugated board and an inner susceptor layer provided by Walki Wisa.

“Our Walki CrispLine consists of a metallized PET film laminated onto paper,” explains Jan-Anders Fagerhed, technical sales and R&D manager at Walki Wisa. “The material acts as a hot plate that generates considerably higher temperatures than could otherwise be achieved in microwave ovens.” CrispLine is used in the same way as conventional liners on corrugated board machines.

The new packs are primarily designed for different types of bread, filled baguettes, sausage rolls, hot dogs, hamburgers, meat pies and other pasties. The susceptor layer gives the bread a crisp surface. While the inside of the product heats up the outside of the pack remains cool, allowing the consumer to hold it while enjoying the contents. The outer corrugated board layer also acts as insulation, keeping the contents hot longer.
