Consumer products company Tupperware Brands has developed a reusable packaging container for zero-waste platform Loop’s brand partner Tim Hortons.

Tim Hortons, a business unit of the Canadian fast-food holding firm Restaurant Brands International, uses the new sustainable container to package its food menu items under a pilot programme at select locations across Burlington in Ontario.

Last year, Tupperware collaborated with TerraCycle’s zero-waste platform Loop that works with brands for the creation of zero-waste, durable and returnable packaging.

Tupperware, which intends to minimise packaging waste through a circular recycling system, has expertise in product design and reusability that helps to support the circular recycling model.

Tupperware commercial business expansion president Hector Lezama said: “We are excited to bring Loop’s brand partners, like Tim Hortons, the opportunity to access and leverage our rich heritage in reusability to help bring more consumers into the fold on what it means to reduce their single-use footprint.

“This partnership aligns to our purpose to nurture a better future every day by bringing to life sustainable options in the quick-service industry. We look forward to seeing how this pilot program performs.”

Under the partnership with TerraCycle’s Loop, the test pilot with Tim Hortons is Tupperware’s first entry into the market.

The move will help accelerate Tupperware’s No Time to Waste initiative to minimise single-use plastic and food waste.

Tupperware said that it will provide additional reusable package options to more Loop’s brand partners next year.

Established to support Eliminate the Idea of Waste initiative, Loop is a global reuse platform backed by a multi-stakeholder coalition of manufacturers, retailers, and consumers.

In April this year, Tupperware expanded its ECO+ sustainable material product line with the introduction of two new products, Lunch-It Containers and Sandwich Keepers.
