North American flexible packaging firm Transcontinental (TC Transcontinental) has completed the acquisition of Coveris’ Americas business for $1.32bn.

Coveris Americas is engaged in manufacturing a variety of flexible plastic and paper products, including rollstock, bags and pouches, coextruded films, shrink films, coated substrates and labels.

The company currently operates 21 production facilities located in the US, Canada, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, the UK, New Zealand and China.

TC Transcontinental president and CEO François Olivier said: “We started building our Packaging network only four years ago through a robust acquisition strategy to complement our well established printing and media operations and, today, the acquisition of Coveris Americas marks a major milestone in our continued journey to long-term profitable growth.

“Through the integration process, we will focus on combining our expertise, strengths and shared purpose, and on working as one to continue delivering value for Coveris Americas’ 3,500 loyal customers, many of whom are market leaders.”

The sale, however, excludes Coveris’ operations, including Rigid, EMEA, and UK Food & Consumer businesses.

TC Transcontinental said that the acquisition strengthens its position across a range of flexible packaging’s growing end markets including dairy, pet food, beverage, agriculture and consumer products.

In March this year, TC Transcontinental also acquired US flexible packaging supplier Multifilm Packaging for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Elgin of Illinois, Multifilm provides flexible packaging solutions for the food, beverage, and confectionery industries.

The company is specialized in providing piece-wraps and high-barrier laminates for the confectionery, snacks and dry foods markets.

TC Transcontinental Packaging is engaged in providing flexographic printing, lamination of plastic films, and converting, including bags and pouches.
