Japanese textile company Toyobo has announced the availability of new transparent biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film ECOSYAR VP001.

Scheduled to be launched by the end of September 2023, the film is said to be the first vapour-deposition film ECOSYAR series product that uses a polyolefin material.

The ECOSYAR VP001 is made using Toyobo’s vapour deposition technique with a special high heat-resistant BOPP film.

According to the firm, the latest product is a high gas barrier film for packaging that offers exceptional heat resistance. A sample of the latest offering will be available by the end of this year.

Due to its barrier properties against oxygen gas and water vapour, the ECOSYAR VP001 can keep food contents fresh and extend their shelf life to reduce food loss and waste

Toyobo intends to encourage the use of the ECOSYAR VP001 in place of films derived from other materials to create polyolefin mono-material packaging for general usage and sterilising.

It has high processing suitability such as laminating and bag making and complies with Japan’s Product Liability Act and Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s public notice No. 370.

When recycled, the film releases no chlorine gas or its compounds, said the firm.

Toyobo has already introduced materials that are appropriate for mono-material, including OLYESTER, a polyester film with a heat-sealing function, and a gas barrier BOPP film DP065 for dry application.

The company is dedicated to fostering the development of a sustainable society by offering green products.
