Japan-based laminating adhesives producer Toyo-Morton has launched a new series of laminating adhesives that are free of epoxy silanes and organic tin compounds.

The new lineup includes the solvent-based TOMOFLEX and the solvent-free ECOAD series of laminating adhesives.

According to the Toyo-Morton, a member of the Toyo Ink Group, both materials are suited for a wide range of multilayer flexible packaging applications, including dry food, liquid pouches, and high-performance retorts.

The new range of adhesives also meets global food contact requirements for adhesives, including EU No.10/2011, FDA 175.105, China GB 9685-2016, and Japan’s Notification No. 196.

Toyo-Morton technical division director and senior general manager Joji Suzuki said: “While epoxy silanes are not currently subject to regulatory control, we are proactively eliminating substances of concern from our products.

“The new lineup was formulated to address the growing regulatory demands that converters and food manufacturers face regarding food packaging safety.”

Suzuki added: “As a leading adhesive manufacturer, we were able to develop laminating adhesive products that are not only free of epoxy silanes and organic tin compounds, but also offer the same physical properties and performance levels as regular products.

“Toyo-Morton remains committed to delivering adhesive solutions that enable our customers to achieve the highest performance and food safety standards.”

The TM-2470 is part of the TOMOFLEX solvent-based line and is designed for liquid pouch applications such as soups, frozen meals, pickled foods, and noodles.

The TM-3040 is appropriate for dry food packaging such as snack foods, candy, and pet foods.

According to US FDA 177.1390, the TM-2300 aliphatic system is ideal for high-temperature retort pouch laminating structures for high-performance retort applications.

The ECOAD series of solvent-free adhesives, the EA-N6008 for liquid pouches and the EA-N6001 for dry food applications, are the other offering from the new portfolio.

ECOAD systems enable converters to increase their production through high-speed lamination on metalized film frameworks, in addition to improved food safety.
