Xaar’s Leopard print head has been let out of its cage to prove itself as the king of high quality inkjet printing.

Based on Xaar’s greyscale technology and developed in collaboration with licensee Toshiba TEC, the Leopard is said to offer near photographic quality reproduction. The print head has been designed for printing UV curable inks onto plastics such as smart cards and ID cards, CD decoration and other packaging applications such as carton and label printing.

The Xaar greyscale system works through multiple droplets fired from one nozzle in rapid succession, rather than a single droplet in the binary method. This allows it to generate higher resolution images with fewer pixels. The ability to achieve variable drop size also means ink volume can be tailored to match the substrate. Leopard features a 53.6mm print swathe.
