Packaging specialist Superior Lithographics has invested in a new Koenig & Bauer Rapida 164in seven-colour offset press to boost its production capabilities.

The company’s 110,000ft² facility in Southern California is involved in the production of large format litho and top sheets for the corrugated box industry, as well as printing and converting folding cartons.

The new Rapida 164 press will be used for the production of litho-lam labels, litho-lam top sheets and folding carton work.

Superior Lithographics operations vice president Jeff Ku said: “Our plan is to run the new press 24/7, printing anything and everything that helps our customers grow their brand awareness and allows increased speed to market.”

In summer 2019, Superior installed a Rapida 145 57in seven colour press, which tripled its overall job throughput and impression output.

The newest press models are configured as seven-colour models, which enable to provide expanded colour gamut, custom brand colours, and enhanced photographic images.

Earlier, the company installed a Rapida 162a 64in six-colour press and a Rapida 205 81in five-colour press. Both presses have UV curing capabilities.

In addition, Superior has developed advanced processes for certain combinations of varnishes and coating. The new processes will be executed by seventh printing unit.

In July last year, Koenig & Bauer launched new medium-format Rapida 106 X sheetfed offset press for industrial printing applications.
