Stevanato Group, a provider of drug containment, drug delivery and diagnostic solutions, has commenced construction on its new facility in Indiana, US, which will entail an investment of around $145m.

The new facility, located in Fishers, is expected to better serve the company’s North American pharmaceutical customers.

It will provide an additional supply source for its mission-critical products and is expected to begin operations in 2023.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the new facility was attended by Indiana governor Eric Holcomb and Fishers mayor Scott Fadness.

In a statement, Holcomb said: “Indiana continues to secure extraordinary growth in life sciences throughout the state, and we’re excited to partner with Stevanato Group and add it to our list of innovative life sciences companies.”

Covering an area of around 370,000ft², the new facility will be used for the expansion and production of Stevanato’s EZ-Fill solutions and pre-sterilised drug containment systems for pharmaceutical applications.

The new facility will feature modern production lines equipped with advanced process technologies for the production of EZ-Fill syringes and vials.

Stevanato’s EZ-Fill solutions are said to help pharmaceutical companies to reduce time to market, the overall total cost of ownership and supply chain risk.

The company will also use the new facility as a centre for after-sales support to serve its North American engineering customers. It will provide technical support and maintenance for visual inspection, assembly and packaging equipment through the centre.

The new facility is expected to expand Stevanato’s North American footprint by enabling it to serve customers with an integrated approach ranging from design and development to commercialisation.

Stevanato Group CEO Franco Moro said: “We are thrilled to begin construction on our new US hub, and expand our presence in one of the fastest-growing markets where we see increasing demand.

“We believe this will allow us to further enhance our services to our valued North America customers and underscores our desire to ensure supply chain security, just in time delivery and reliable sourcing in terms of surge capacity.”

The company aims to recruit over 230 new local employees by the end of 2025 for roles in production, engineering and maintenance, as well as other corporate support positions.

Stevanato is also planning to combine the capabilities of the new centre with its Technology Excellence Centre in Boston to deliver scientific analytical capabilities to the customers.
