Slitter rewinder and Doctor Machine builder Stanford Products has moved into the shrink sleeve marketplace for the first time with a new line of finishing equipment. During a recent open house the company launched its trademarked Seammachine and Doctor Machine Inspector.

Boasting speeds up to 50 per cent faster than the industry average, and with several new patent-pending designs, the equipment is destined to revolutionize the production of shrink sleeves around the world, claims the company.

At the end of a week in which many key global producers of shrink sleeves converged on Stanford’s Salem, Illinois facility, company president Séamus Lafferty said: “We began this project over a year ago in response to numerous requests from our existing customer base for Stanford designed and Stanford built seaming equipment. We committed a huge engineering effort to the project and collaborated closely with key people in the industry. The result of this work is a line of equipment that not only out-produces anything else that is currently available in the market but which also produces a seam of exceptional quality with incredibly low waste.

He added: “The Salem built machines are of robust construction and include Stanford’s superior drive, controls and tension systems. Spare parts and service are available from the factory and from our global network of sales and service agents.”

The Seammachine will form and seam PVC, PET, PETG, and OPS films, handling sleeve widths from 50-254mm (with 25-50mm available as an option). Unwind roll diameter is 762mm and rewind 610mm. Top speed is said to be 500m/min. Patent pending features include an automatic solvent dispensing system and oscillating rewind. There are also seam inspection options.

Incorporating Stanford’s patent pending oscillation technology and with seam inspection options ranging from manual to automatic, the Doctor Machine Inspector series of rewinders is claimed to offer “unparalleled” control and inspection capabilities. Features include reversible 254 and 406mm standard web widths, with others available as options; 610mm unwind and rewind diameters; and speeds of up to 305m/min.
