Schaefer Systems International, a part of Germany-based logistics and materials company SSI Schaefer Group, has expanded its North American headquarters facility in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Around 200 existing SSI Schaefer employees will be working at the new North American headquarters. The employees will service the automation and the packaging systems divisions across the US and Canada.

Schaefer Systems International is into manufacturing of automation systems, reusable packaging systems, material handling products and waste technology products.

Its new facility in Charlotte will also host an additional 200 new IT roles that will work on application engineering development.

The company says that rapid movement within the e-commerce market and distribution facilities needing solutions to meet labor shortages is pushing the new growth.

Schaefer says that following the additional 114,000ft2, the new headquarters has quite a lot of space to expand.

The new facility features office and warehouse space. It adds to seven other facilities of a combined area of 425,000ft2 in Charlotte and located in the 37-acre SSI Schaefer campus.

Schaefer Systems International automation systems division CEO Christoph Schenk said: “Schaefer innovates products for companies looking to automate operations and streamline intralogistics processes—more specifically storage, order fulfillment, picking, packing, and we even develop the software to manage the entire process.

“The new facility increases collaboration between the automation, IT software, and even the packaging groups. As we continue to grow, we need to continue to nurture our team and this new facility represents our commitment to both.”

In late March, Schaefer Systems International’s packaging systems division had expanded its production capabilities by opening a new manufacturing facility in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
