Boots is able to churn out artificial sweeteners at a staggering 2.5M/hr thanks to a new tablet press from IMA UK.

IMA Kilian in Germany, part of IMA’s Solid Dose Division, developed a 19-tip punch used to form 3mm diameter tablets on its RX47 tablet press.

Boots had previously used three tablet presses and was looking for a solution to streamline the operation but had found nothing that came close to the required output.

The new press is currently running on a two-shift production cycle, with a proportion of sweetener output coming from the old RX43 IMA tablet press. Engineers believe that total output will be transferred to the RX47 by summer.
