Diversified packaging company Sonoco has acquired US-based D&W Paper Tubes for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Chatsworth, Georgia, D&W Paper Tubes is engaged in the manufacturing of sustainable industrial paper tubes and cores.

Established in 2000, D&W manufactures 100% recycled paperboard convolute tubes, spiral-wound cores and yarn tubes for the carpet and textile industry at its Chatsworth facility.

The company is expected to generate around $18m in sales in 2021.

Sonoco president and CEO Howard Coker said: “D&W is complementary to our Industrial Paper Packaging segment and further strengthens our position serving the carpet and textile market in Northeast Georgia.

“In addition to acquiring an attractive book of business, we expect to drive meaningful business synergies from our integrated industrial products operations in the Southeast.”

Designed to provide better beam strength, D&W’s convolute cores are said to be the most economical option for wide rolled goods such as carpet and vinyl flooring.

The spiral tubes, which are designed to protect products from damage, can be used for rolled plastics, foils and heavy materials such as roofing membranes.

D&W’s spiral wound yarn tubes, which are designed to provide exacting standards for accuracy and perfection, for the carpet and textile industries. The company also produces mailing and shipping tubes of all sizes.

In October last year, Sonoco agreed to sell its European contract packaging business to a subsidiary of Prairie Industries in a deal worth $120m.
