Software giants Intel and Microsoft are among those supporting and sponsoring a new UK RFID organisation whose key goal will be to link all interested parties – from government and academia to industry bodies and suppliers – to help spread best practice.

The RFID Centre, which has DTI backing, and will have an office “within a taxi ride of Heathrow” within weeks, will also showcase a wide range of RFID applications and provide education, impartial advice and testing services to UK and European businesses to help them evaluate and implement RFID. Ed Cowley, the Centre’s director, says: “Many of RFID’s benefits are universal, so a broad swathe of industry stands to gain.
