Paper-based packaging company Smurfit Kappa has introduced a new sustainable packaging portfolio for customers in the health and beauty market.

The customisable eHealth & Beauty portfolio consists of sustainable and paper-based packaging solutions suitable for shipping sensitive products such as fragrances, cosmetics, and skin and hair care products.

Smurfit’s circular packaging solutions also include tamper-proof packaging designed for vitamins, supplements and sports nutrition.

Smurfit’s recent research revealed that 80% of consumers expect their parcel to reach in perfect condition, 59% prefer parcels with an easy-open option, 74% prefer easy return for convenience and 69% prefer paper-based packaging for sustainability reasons.

The company’s new solutions are said to address key challenges for the e-commerce supply chain including product damage, void fill, and sustainability.

The new sustainable portfolio is also in line with the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) standards, thereby enabling Amazon’s packaging certification process for specific products.

Smurfit Kappa innovation and development vice president Arco Berkenbosch said: “In the health and beauty segment the speed to market needs to be combined with a unique consumer experience.

“Our new eHealth & Beauty product range offers exciting, fit-for-purpose and bespoke packaging solutions, that are suited to different size businesses from entrepreneurs to globally recognised brands. This packaging range is the best way to boost your eCommerce sales approach.”

Tamper Evident Pack, which is one of the new solutions in the portfolio, features a double self-locking mechanism that helps to avoid the use of tape and is easy to return.

Smurfit has specifically designed the Beauty Sleeve solution for the protection of small products such as skincare and cosmetics. Its curved edges help to provide a unique look to enhance the brand experience.

Hammock Fit solution is designed to provide extra protection to the products across the supply chain, in addition to offering distinctive design.

The eHealth & Beauty range, the latest addition to the firm’s range of Better Planet Packaging solutions, also includes a host of automated solutions to enhance the packaging process and growth for businesses.

In July this year, Smurfit Kappa agreed to acquire Northern Italy-based containerboard business Verzuolo for €360m in cash.
