With the new paper, Smurfit Kappa is continuing to bring digital innovation to the corrugated industry.

The printer should work hand-in-hand with the packaging material to provide digital print for both packaging and Point of sale displays.

Smurfit Kappa has developed new range of paper for maximizing the capabilities of digital print.

The new range of paper, which is suitable for both UV and water-based digital printing, is also compatible with traditional flexographic printers.

Smurfit Kappa said it is planning to launch new paper later this year, following its investment in advanced printing machines.

Smurfit Kappa paper division product development vice president Lars Henriksson said: “To offer our customers the right graphic design with the right flexibility and quality, Smurfit Kappa has embraced digital printing.

For consumers expecting quality and customised print, Smurfit Kappa is providing ShelfSmart technology that offers customised graphic design, which will help enhance sales across all sales channels.

“This new range of paper has performed very well in our beta programme tests and looks very promising. It will be another step forward on our journey towards digitalising the paper-based packaging industry.”

Earlier this month, Smurfit Kappa has acquired Netherlands-based paper and recycling business Reparenco for €460m.

The company has acquired Reparenco’s paper mill with a capacity of 675,000 tons in the Netherlands.

The mill includes two machines with a capacity of 405,000 tons of recycled containerboard and 270,000 tons of graphic paper, which can be converted into containerboard.

Reparenco’s mill, which also includes a 750,000 ton recovered fibre operation, is expected to help expand Smurfit Kappa’s paper integration capacity.

Smurfit Kappa provides advanced packaging solutions to the customers in the food and drink, consumer good and industrial sectors.

The company’s product portfolio is comprised of container board, paper and board solutions, as well as packaging machinery solutions.

Last month, Smurfit Kappa ramped up its capabilities by installing eight HP Scitex corrugated presses across its European sites.
