Siegwerk, a provider of printing inks and coatings for packaging applications and labels, has collaborated with Rotopack to create a new joint venture (JV) in Pakistan.

The new JV, dubbed Siegwerk Pakistan, will commence operations in the second quarter of next year.

The location for the new JV has been identified by the partners in the Karachi area, while the construction activities are in progress at the new site.

Siegwerk EMEA flexible packaging business unit vice president Dirk Weissenfeldt said: “We are happy to have found a partner with such deep-rooted experiences in the domestic printing and packaging market like Rotopack, who also matches our values and vision.”

Siegwerk Pakistan will use the new location for the production of inks and coatings for flexible packaging applications.

Later, the site will also be expanded to produce water-based and UV products to serve other packaging segments.

At present, both firms are focusing on assembling a local team of local experts and specialists to begin operations in spring next year. They will be trained by Siegwerk experts in Turkey and Germany over the next few weeks.

The new JV will enable Siegwerk to strengthen its presence in South Asia, in addition to benefitting from Rotopack’s domestic market know-how and network.

Rotopack founder Aamir Hirani said: “Since more than 10 years, we deliver high-quality products and solutions to our customers throughout Pakistan that create value and competitive advantage while positively impacting the world we live in.

“With the joint venture partnership with Siegwerk we can now build on our expertise helping to make Siegwerk’s high-quality inks and coatings available to the market as well.”

In April this year, Siegwerk opened a new blending centre in Dhaka to manufacture and supply toluene-free inks for customers in Bangladesh.
