Schur Flexibles has acquired Italian sustainable films producer Termoplast to expand its recyclable packaging innovations.

Termoplast offers 100% recyclable MDO-PE films for all printing technologies and special applications for industrial companies, as well as for food, medical and pharmaceutical sectors.

With low material thickness, the company’s MDO-PE films deliver better barrier and processing qualities.

Its product portfolio consists of sustainable sealable, barrier and high-barrier films, in addition to peelable and reclosable films.

The acquisition of Termoplast will allow Schur Flexibles to accelerate its expansion in the Italian market.

Schur Flexibles CEO Michael Schernthaner said: “Termoplast is a perfect fit for Schur Flexibles Group. Its entire production process is geared towards sustainability. It is truly a best practice example of the circular economy, whether with respect to innovations, its product portfolio, the recycling of post-industrial waste.”

With around 26,500m² of space, Termoplast’s facility in Gambassi Terme of Florence features advanced machinery to produce films.

Termoplast also runs its own recycling company to implement its zero-waste strategy and boost the circular economy.

With annual revenue of around €50m in 2020, the company manufactures an average of around 28,000 tonnes of film material per annum.

Termoplast current owners and managing directors Salvino and Sandro Barnini said: “Our innovations developed in close cooperation among our R&D teams will allow us to tap into new markets. As part of a strong European group, we will also secure long-term, qualified jobs for our employees.”

Last month, B&C Group agreed to purchase an 80% stake in Schur Flexibles Group from Lindsay Goldberg.
