Saudi Arabia-based chemical producer SABIC has collaborated with Guangdong Jinming Machinery and Bolsas de los Altos to develop flexible film packaging solutions.

The partnership is intended to support the growth of polyolefin-based solutions in the flexible packaging sector.

It will provide an outlet to evaluate and validate the performance of SABIC‘s polyolefin resin products, including the polyethylene resin range from Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV) and TRUCIRCLE.

Plastic packaging equipment manufacturer Jinming will also install its multilayer co-extrusion machinery at Bolsas’ facility in Mexico.

SABIC polymers technology and innovation vice president Waleed Al-Shalfan said: “At SABIC, we continue to invest in market-driven innovation to deliver value-added solutions to our customers.

“We understand that partnerships with the right value chain players have the potential to bring newer, game-changing innovations to the market faster.

“The current partnership with Jinming and Bolsas holds great promise to tap into mutual capabilities and adapt global trends in flexible packaging applications to regional needs.”

The collaboration is expected to strengthen SABIC’s position as a polyethylene resin supplier in the Americas. It will also help SABIC to develop a robust applications pipeline based on current and future market trends.

According to the chemical firm, the deal also aims to address the difficulties of transforming current film structures to satisfy the most recent circularity requirements.

To address these issues, SABIC will use its deep materials knowledge, Jinming will provide its equipment manufacturing experience and Bolsas will offer converting capabilities.

Jinming general manager Mars Ma said: “It’s a great milestone to sign off this MOU which officially kicks off the strategic collaborations among the three parties. It’s an excellent example of value chain collaboration.

“We are glad to work together with SABIC and Bolsas to address market needs via innovative solutions.”

In July this year, the chemical firm rolled out a pilot project to study the use of blockchain technology in end-to-end digital traceability of circular feedstock in customer products.
