The new biodegradable star-sealed bag, which is certified as fully compostable by DIN Certco, has been made by using over 50% renewable materials.

RKW Vietnam, which is specialized in producing consumer packaging solutions, manufactures the new compostable bags.

Manufactured at RKW Vietnam’s facility in Ho Chi Minh City, the bag features star-sealed bottom enables to prevent the leakage of liquids.

Claimed to be the first T-shirt starseal bag in the market, the new waste bag is comprised of starch and polylactic acid (PLA), as well as other biodegradable components.

According to the company, the disposal of organic waste from kitchens is a challenging task and conventional plastic bags cannot be disposed along with organic waste, while paper bags tend to soak through over time.

Supplied by major retailers across Germany, the new plastic waste bags are fully compostable, making it suitable for organic waste applications.

RKW Vietnam product manager Manh-Hung Ngo said: “With the first T-shirt starseal bags that are compostable and consist of more than 50 percent from renewable materials, RKW is a pioneer on the market.

“So far, bags with approximately less than 40 percent renewable content have been available in markets such as France or Italy. We were able to design bags with a significant higher proportion. Hence, these waste bags are another milestone towards a more sustainable future.”

The star-sealed bag doesn’t require to be removed from the waste, enabling to make the disposal of organic waste more convenient.

The bag is provided with carrying handles that help to tie the bag, and is suitable for bins with different shapes.

Based in Frankentha, RKW produces different film solutions, including hygiene and agricultural filsm, films for the beverage industry and packaging for powdery goods.

The firm also manufactures films and nonwovens for medical applications, as well as chemical and converting industries.
