In the US, Paxar Corp has launched Q-Service – claimed to be the industry’s first RFID service bureau. It enables suppliers to Wal-Mart and other retailers needing RFID shipping and pallet labels to take delivery of labels, programmed with their unique RFID data and printed with bar code and human readable data, “in as little as 48 hours”.

Now, suppliers can meet retailers’ RFID needs without investing in hardware or systems, the company boasts.

“We successfully filled several orders in the second quarter,” reveals John Powell, vp, service operations. “The first customer to use our Q-Service capabilities was a large package delivery company. We ran the order and shipped it, meeting their delivery expectations. The customer was entirely satisfied with the service and the 100 per cent read rate of the labels provided.”

Paxar says its RFID products are used worldwide by leading apparel brands. The Monarch brand products are used by 90 per cent of the top 100 US retailers and their supply chain partners to identify, track and price all varieties of consumer goods. The company is a member of EPCglobal, the agency managing the emerging standards for RFID.
