Ranpak, a provider of sustainable, paper-based packaging solutions, has introduced a new machine, Flap’it!, which can automate the packing of several small products.

Flap’it! keeps the object in place with inside flaps and built-in cushioning bumpers at the corners while automatically adjusting to the item’s height.

This will help reduce the expenditures associated with product damage and returns and keep the items safe throughout transit.

The system has a tiny physical footprint and can be easily moved about the building. It is operated by a single person and has several safety measures.

Flap’it! can pack up to 540 packages per hour at a rate of nine packages per minute, which is five times faster than human packaging.  It is integrated with labelling systems for the in-line application of shipping labels.

The solution eliminates the need to store multiple box sizes in inventory. Once delivered, packages are simple for the receiver to open without the need for tools like knives or scissors.

The machine employs blanks to create the packages, so there is no need to have several box sizes in inventory and traditional mail can be used to transport small packages.

The solution is said to be suitable for e-commerce and logistics operations, including B2C sellers of tiny devices, music, photobooks, personalised presents, books, and photobooks.

It can fit into the pick-then-pack process and package items with a maximum height of 80mm and integrates easily into a conventional pick-then-pack operation.

The solution is simple to use, needs no operator training, and may save packaging material costs by up to 50% while producing no corrugated trash.

According to the company, it provides a better unwrapping experience in comparison to pillow bags.

Ranpak chairman and chief executive officer Omar Asali said: “The global launch of Flap’it! is the latest example of how Ranpak is strategically investing in innovative automated packaging solutions to deliver cost savings, efficiency gains and sustainability benefits to our customers.

“We are pleased to add Flap’it! to our growing portfolio of sustainable automated packaging solutions to help our customers improve their supply chain performance, lower their labour and materials costs, and reduce their environmental impact.”
