Paper-based packaging solutions provider Ranpak Holdings has acquired the Netherlands-based sustainable cool packs manufacturer Recycold Cool Solutions for an undisclosed sum.
Recycold Cool Solutions is engaged in the development of advanced packaging solutions for the safe and eco-conscious distribution of food, fresh ingredients and pharma products.
The company’s cool pack consists of a 100% biodegradable cooling gel, which can be rinsed with water in the sink or empty in the garden /green container.
The empty packaging without gel can be disposed of with residual waste or bins for combined materials.

The acquisition will enable Ranpak and Recycold customers to place an order for an end-to-end solution from a single source and benefit from easy integration, better unboxing experience and cost and sustainability gains.
With the acquisition, packers can now place Ranpak’s WrapPak paper pads in the box before adding the Recycold cool packs to enhance the existing packing operation.
Ranpak Cold Chain thermal liners with Recycold Cool Packs will provide a better unboxing experience, as well as help minimise or eliminate the use of plastic packaging.
The company is also planning to incorporate Recycold’s manufacturing operations into the new Ranpak’s Dutch facility, which is expected to be opened by the end of next year.

In October this year, Ranpak announced a strategic investment in Creapaper, the inventor of grasspaper and provider of grasspaper products.
Based in Ohio and established in 1972, Ranpak offers sustainable paper-based packaging solutions for e-commerce and industrial supply chains.
