The investment will see installation of a second multilayer Windmoeller & Hoelscher (W&H) blown film line to meet the increasing demands for output.

In late 2016, the firm said it will invest $17m to upgrade the facility with the installation of first five-layer W&H line, converting equipment and expanded production space.

Pregis chief innovation officer Tom Wetsch said: “We are seeing increased demand for higher quality flexible packaging, e-commerce protective material and surface protection films.

“Our continued investment in this facility will help us meet market segment expectations for package performance and provide vertical integration for some of Pregis’ other products.”

The Grand Rapids manufacturing facility comprises four state-of-the-art multilayer blown film extrusion lines and film lab, in addition to the two W&H lines. It currently employs 130 people.

Earlier this year, Pregis said it has invests $1m in blown film testing lab for its Grand Rapids facility to assist converters in delivering performance-oriented materials.

The Grand Rapids facility, which operates under the company’s Pregis Films business unit, provides custom film rollstock to converters for packaging applications that protect a wide variety of products.

The facility manufactures polyethylene film, which can be converted into various flexible packaging structures for different applications.

At that time, Wetsch said: “We made the investment in the new lab to create systems and processes which will enable us to exceed our customer’s expectations. Having an onsite facility will better equip us to provide faster solutions and also allow us to accelerate our R&D work.”

Pregis is engaged in providing protective packaging materials, equipment systems and surface protection.

It serves a wide variety of consumer and industrial market segments including food, pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical devices, agricultural, e-commerce, retail, automotive, transportation, furniture, electronics, building, construction, and military/aerospace.
