Protective packaging materials provider Pregis has acquired US-based Rex Performance Products (RPP), to strengthen its foam manufacturing capability.

Established in 2011, RPP provides laminated foam technology and employs 85 people at its facilities located in Marysville, Michigan, US.

The acquisition is a part of Pregis’ effort to strengthen its position as one of the largest foam producers in North America. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Pregis said that the acquisition adds another 100,000ft2 of manufacturing space, as well as 150,000ft2 of warehouse space to its network.

Pregis president and CEO Kevin Baudhuin said: "The acquisition strengthens Pregis' position as a leading North American producer of engineered foam.

“We will now have five engineered foam manufacturing locations and a vast warehousing network across the continent to serve fabricators. The combined organization will offer customers an expanded portfolio of protective packaging solutions.”

Over the past four years, Pregis has made a total of five acquisitions including RPP, under Olympus Partners ownership.

The other four acquired firms include Sharp Packaging, 3M Company's PolyMask protective films business, Easypack paper-based protective packaging systems and Eagle Film Extruders.

Baudhuin added: "We view the Rex Performance Products organization and their employees as a perfect fit within Pregis. We believe our combined product offering, enhanced foam technology and our teams' knowledge strengthen our position as a valued partner to our customers.”

Rex Performance Products offers engineered polyethylene foam products which are used for protective packaging (cushioning, surface protection, blocking/bracing, void fill) solutions for a wide variety of products and markets.

The firm also offers full product suite of laminated planks and roll stock which are available in a range of colors and densities.

Pregis offers protective packaging materials, equipment systems and surface protection solutions for various consumer and industrial market segments such as food, beverage, healthcare, medical devices, agricultural, e-commerce, retail, automotive, furniture, electronics, construction and military/aerospace.
