Interbrew is showing continued confidence in PET packaging acceptance in Eastern Europe, with the decision to extend its use of active barrier technology to two more beer brands.

The M&G Group is supplying active barrier technology to Romanian beer brand Bergenbier and Bulgarian label Kamenitza.

The move follows the introduction of M&G’s proprietary resin ActiTUF into Interbrew’s new beer packaging Pivopack for the Klinskoye brand in Russia earlier this year.

ActiTUF comprises an active oxygen scavenging system and a passive gas barrier system, which enables beer to stay fresher for longer. It is placed into Interbrew preforms by M&G’s European Packaging Business Unit.

M&G CEO Marco Ghisolf said: “We are extremely pleased with the continued confidence Interbrew is showing in the ActiTUF technology. We are expecting this technology to have wider applications such as juices and other oxygen sensitive beverages and not only in Central and Eastern Europe.

“I am looking forward to the day we can announce successful developments in the US and other EU countries.”
