Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) has broken a ground on its new full-line corrugated facility in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

The new facility is being developed to replace the company's existing plant in Colby.

PCA’s long-time employees from Colby facility will continue to work at the new plant in Marshfield. The new facility is around 20 miles from Colby.

The firm is planning to complete the new corrugated facility by the end of this year.

PCA management, Marshfield mayor and other city officials, builders of the new facility and from the nearby Colby plant have been attended for the ceremony.

The new plant general manager Mike Conley said: “It was important to me to have all the employees at the groundbreaking. Having the whole team present was very special.”

PCA produces various packaging solutions, including corrugated containers, retail packaging and displays, heavy-duty packaging, produce packaging, , record storage boxes, freight saver dunnage bags and containerboard solutions.

The company manufactures Hexacomb paper-based honeycomb packaging solution, which serves as a customizable structural complement to its corrugated products.

PCA’s Falconboard is a recyclable rigid graphics media board that provides better performance compared to traditional foam board products.

The company also offers Tharco stock boxes, which can be used for shipping, display and in-plant handling applications.  Its product line includes paper and plastic corrugated products; custom foam packaging products; and corrugated fiberboard boxes. 

PCA produces around 3.9 million tons of kraft linerboard and corrugating semi-chemical medium for its own converting facilities, in addition to multiple domestic and international customers. 

The firm operates six containerboard mills in the US which are located in Counce of Tennessee, DeRidder of  Louisiana, Filer City of Michigan, Tomahawk of Wisconsin,  Valdosta of Georgia and Wallula of Washington.

In 2016, PCA acquired Columbus Container for $100m, which is engaged in providing corrugated packaging products using new technologies and design centers for its customers.
