Pira International has opened a £500,000 packaging materials testing facility which is fitted with the latest equipment provided on preferential terms by US based LAB Equipment.

The new Distribution Test House has seven new items installed in an extended laboratory, supported by ancillary software and ongoing support from MultiVibe Systems, LAB’s UK distributor. The facility will be used for transit pack development work and performance assessment, particularly in the medical device, white goods, business machines, healthcare and food and drink sectors. The Test House subjects packaged products to the physical and climatic rigours of distribution as a means of achieving optimum pack performance and reduction at source.

Nick Kernoghan, Pira’s business manager for packaging testing services, comments: “The partnership with LAB has enabled us to accelerate our investment plan in the Distribution Test House so that we can offer our customers a substantially enhanced range of services. We can use one of the laboratories for confidential client work, whilst maintaining a constant level of service to our other customers. The extra flexibility and responsiveness we can now provide will keep us at the forefront of the market.”

Bill Noonan, president of LAB Equipment, adds: “Pira International is well known and well respected throughout the world for the quality of its work in this field. We have worked closely over many years and we are delighted to be able to continue to support the activities of Pira as well as strengthen our own presence in the European market.”
