NOVA Chemicals has established a new line of business, NOVA Circular Solutions, to develop and sell a range of low-emission recycled polyethylene (rPE) solutions.

NOVA Circular Solutions will market the solutions under its latest SYNDIGO brand, which will be available in North America.

The Canadian company expects that the new business line will make polyethylene production more sustainable and help meet North America’s expanding need for recycled goods.

NOVA Circular Solutions is driven by a professional team in plastics development, recycling technology, additive science, package design, and regulatory compliance.

NOVA said that the SYNDIGO rPE is created to support the decarbonisation and recycled content objectives of brands and converters. It will also establish new standards for the industry and accelerate the shift to a circular economy for plastics.

NOVA Chemicals sales and marketing senior vice president John Thayer said: “Plastic products play a critical role in our daily lives, and industry and consumers are placing higher value on products that contribute to the circular economy. They want products that can be recycled, reused, and reimagined.

“Today’s announcement underscores NOVA’s commitment to be a leader in sustainable polyethylene production. We are investing time, resources, and world-class technical knowledge into this new line of business and the SYNDIGO brand.”

Currently, the SYNDIGO brand is offering three commercially available resins including EX-PCR-WR3, EX-PCR-NC4, and EX-PCR-HD5.

The EX-PCR-WR3 resin is said to be a mechanically recycled resin that is sourced from polyethylene (PE) agricultural film. The petrochemical firm said that this resin is suitable for e-commerce mailers, can liners, carry-out bags, protective packaging, and shrinks.

NOVA said that the EX-PCR-NC4 is a mechanically recycled resin sourced from back-of-store distribution centre PE stretch film and front-of-store consumer drop-off. It is ideal for heavy-duty sacks, e-commerce mailers, stretch wraps, collation shrink, protective packaging, and industrial films.

Suitable for flexible packaging, heavy-duty sacks and small-part blow moulding, the EX-PCR-HD5 resin is mechanically recycled and is sourced from HDPE milk jugs.

The headquarters of Nova Circular Solutions and the Syndigo brand will be in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, together with Nova Chemicals.
