Toronto based CCL Industries, whose CCL Label Division claims to be the world’s largest printer of primary self adhesive labels, is also the largest single user of Nilpeter’s MO-3300 offset based combination presses. Most recent installation is an eight-unit version installed at CCL’s factory in Leeds, UK. It will be the fourth MO-3300 press running at this plant. Two identical machines are operating at CCL’s Paris operation, while five (two on order) are in the company’s plants in the USA and two in the Far East.

The Leeds press is configured with eight interchangeable offset/UV flexo/rotary screen stations. It also has Nilpeter’s recently introduced gravure cassette module. With its laser engraved sleeves, this allows printing of metallic ink decorative effects as a cost effective alterative to foil blocking. This will be of special interest to cosmetics, personal care and beverage companies.

Stuart Lang, president of CCL Label, Europe, says: “In Europe we have standardized our buying of film, plates, screens and inks to allow interchangeable print capacity throughout all our plants. It aligns with the growing trend towards the single source buying of labels and packaging materials by international brand owners.

“The four Nilpeter presses provide us with a common platform with excellent production flexibility to meet the quick turnarounds required by our customers. At another level, the need to keep total costs down is helped by the fact that offset plates cost considerably less than conventional flexo plates, while giving a superior quality image.”
